The Public Defender for the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida seeks an intake interviewer. The Public Defender is an elected official who has a constitutional duty to provide legal representation to persons in jeopardy of losing their life or liberty who cannot afford to hire a private attorney. Our office employs nearly 230 attorneys plus investigators, mitigation specialists, and secretaries to assist with the more than 75,000 cases we handle each year. Position Type: Full-time

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting salary is $41,600. Depending on qualifications, educational background and required relevant experience, qualified candidates may start at a higher salary.

Job Description Overview: The intake interviewer assists with client intake interviews in correctional facilities and hospitals, requesting and processing records, records' review, preparing calendars, files, documentation and follow through. It is an in-person position, working at the jail. No hybrid or remote work permitted.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Proficiency in MSWord
  • Excellent verbal, written, computer, communication and interpersonal skills
  • English/Spanish and/or English/Creole required
  • Reliable vehicle, as travel is required in and around the Miami area
  • Must have the ability to work weekends and holidays
