Job Description

Please note: this position requires in-office availability Monday-Friday. This position is not eligible for remote or hybrid schedule and at this time, we are not offering relocation coverage.

Summary

This position is responsible for designing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. This includes full project management and execution by researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. The software developer will also analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and provide status reports where required. Work closely with the Sr. Director of IT, staff, outside consultants, and vendors to ensure stability and security of custom software. Research industry trends and best practices in software development.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for designing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. (25%)

  • Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications.
  • Generate statistics and prepare and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process.
  • Write and update programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or appearance of company ecommerce applications and/or related web applications as necessary.
  • Ensure capacity and data integrity through annual system performance testing.
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
  • Install software products for end users as required.

Perform full project management and execution through research, design, documentation, and modification of software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. (20%)

  • Plan phases of the software development life cycle for a variety of projects.
  • Research and document requirements of software users.
  • Organize and conduct project team meetings.
  • Develop custom application review schedules, audits and acceptance testing for each phase of a project.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
  • Assist in the preparation and documentation of software requirements and specifications.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines.
  • Prepare and present oral and/or written technical reports and project presentations.

Analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and provide status reports where required. (20%)

  • Run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
  • Ensure quality and timely execution of all project deliverables; understand importance of project delivery and work within the delivery deadlines.
  • Monitor and proactively troubleshoot applications during annual peak processing to ensure success.

Work closely with the Sr Director of IT, staff, outside consultants, and vendors to ensure stability and security of custom software. (20%)

  • Identify and document opportunities to integrate custom code to fulfill strategic initiatives.
  • Assist other developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and developing new software programs and applications.
  • Liaise with network administrators, systems analysts, and company team members to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.

Research industry trends and best practices in software development . (10%)

  • Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Keep current with trends, issues, and attack vectors in the IT industry to maintain a proactive security posture for all custom code.
  • Identify custom application design alternatives, researching existing applications in the marketplace and recommending viable solutions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • 5+ years (preferred) work experience as a software developer or architect.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Certifications desired, however not required.
